Where We’ve Been. Where We’re Going. Experiences Along the Way.

Yeah! WordPress 2.5!

I spent most of the day at Fairport Village Coffee chipping away at my business plan, hunkering down for almost 12 hours!

It’s a little past 2am, and I decided to go ahead with a little SEO for my web sites and do a little maintenance work as well. WordPress was updated to 2.5, so I updated my blog’s “innards” to play in the new shiny sandbox. πŸ™‚

Anywho, this post is really to test out and ensure the new version of WordPress is working ok. πŸ˜€

I’ll write more later this weekend. I promise!! πŸ˜€

Viva La Business Plan!

I’ve finished my necessary papers for both of my business classes to allow me a full week and a half to work on and finish up my business plan!!

I need to celebrate tomorrow or something! To date, this has been the most intensive week of writing papers, and I’m just glad that I’m finished with them and I can focus on my bplan πŸ™‚

Maybe I’ll schedule a massage for this weekend. I had a really nice massage last weekend at this great spa, Belle Vista, in Westtown.

Well, onward to the plan! Viva!

Springtime Snow.

This was a surprise, though not an entirely delightful one. We received about 7 inches of heavy snow last night – the kind that clings to trees and really creates a fantastic, picturesque landscape. Here are a few shots I took as I was leaving the house in the morning.

Phew!

What an incredible week this has been; insanely busy would be a great description. I have managed to all but work 3 weeks ahead in my studies, paving the way for a 3 week path to finish up my business plan which is due on April 13.

I have a fairly busy schedule this weekend. Keziah and I are attending her grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary and I still have 4 papers that I need to – well, I’d like to finish up this weekend so I will be free and clear of papers in order to work solely on my business plan. I will try and post pictures of the festivities later this weekend. πŸ™‚

Spring break begins April 13, so I will have some reprieve, but not much. I have my shadowing project due on the 27th – that’s the paper I’m writing on Brady, and then I have a career paper that’s due on May 5. That paper will be the third and last “big” projects that I have to finish for my classes for this semester.

Beginning in June, I’m taking a stress management class, ironically enough! πŸ˜‰ That class is only 2 credit hours and will satisfy my PhyEd requirements of my degree for graduation! HooRah! I still have 5 more classes to take after that – 2 in the fall, 2 next spring and I’ll wrap up my business degree by taking 1 last class a year from now in the summer. By that point, it will be about 9 years since I first went back to school in 2000, and cumulatively 5 years all told for my associates, which honestly isn’t bad considering I’ve only taken classes part-time while working full-time. I give anybody who’s had to endure similar rigours mad props for their endurance. πŸ˜€

Once my business plan is finished, I’ll begin to focus on my shadowing paper, which I’m really excited to work on. I’m going to present it in a very unique and different manner – something totally unconventional for a business class paper. πŸ˜€

Lately, I’ve been having very topical and intriguing discussions about a number of national matters that I hope to develop into longer, more formal written works. I’ll digress from them for now though as it’s a bit past 1am and I’m in need of some beauty rest. πŸ˜‰

I’ll end on with this truly amazing and touching video from YouTube which has been viewed over 25 million times. Without a doubt you’re sure to have seen this before; however, if you haven’t you owe it to yourself to take a 5 minute break to watch the video. Hey, smokers get smoke breaks, right? Well, it’s time you took a non-smoke break. πŸ™‚

Cheers, enjoy!

Wiped Out.

So, after successfully making it to the gym one day last week, I decided to give it another shot; so, I went tonight for about 1.5 hours. First, I did a brisk walk on the treadmill, catching up on my daily dose of Cramer – which I have been lapsing from recently. (Thank you iPhone.)

I had an idea while I was there. What if gyms across the country retrofitted all of their exercise equipment with technology that could harness the energy created by gym members and use all that energy to power the gym, or at least supplement the power from electricity suppliers? It would be interesting to find out just how much energy is created through the use of spinning bikes, treadmills, elliptical machines, etc. If you know of any studies, e-mail me. πŸ˜€

After the gym, I came home and took the second test for my BUS104 class. I really wish my BUS104 tests were instantly graded like my BUS110 tests are. There’s nothing more annoying than waiting for your test to be graded. Maybe it’s my generation where we need instant gratification – anyway, I digress.

By the time I finished with the test, it was about time for bed, which of course meant staying up for another hour or so working on yet another project for a friend of mine in Arizona. He’s working on a film and in need of a web site for his film production company. So, I temporarily set up http://huckabone.ryantcollier.com to get him started. πŸ˜€

Over the next few weeks, I hope to add some more content a little bit at a time. But, my time is quite fragmented right now. My business plan is due April 13, so I’m going to be focusing heavily on that over the next 3 weeks. Once I have that done, my next assignment is finishing up my BUS110 shadowing project. Basically, I can’t wait until May 22, when my classes are over and I can start to breath again!!

I need a nice, relaxing weekend!! Is there such a thing?! πŸ˜€

Coffee with a Friend.

I met up with a friend of mine, Brady Dillsworth, who’s the subject of my BUS110 semester project – a shadowing paper that focuses on a small-business owner. I spent almost 4 hours at a local Starbucks asking a series of questions to garner some information about his business, how he got started, and where he sees the business in the long-term future. It was a great interview, and I’m really excited to get started on the project. Thanks Brady for giving me your time!

Not expecting to spend that much time at the interview, I ran up against the clock in finishing my other paper that was due by mid-night! I barely made it with literally 3 minutes to spare. Nothing like cutting it close to keep things interesting! πŸ˜€

Oh, my ad debuted this weekend in City Newspaper – a Rochester, NY weekly circular. Here’s a picture of the ad, as it appeared in the “Annual Manual” insert.

Saturworkday.

Ya, that’s right – I just make up words whenever I feel like it.

Sa-tur-work-day: (n) The 6th day of the week, known commonly as Saturday, in which an individual spends at least 8 hours working.

On this Saturworkday, I spent almost 9 hours at a client’s house upgrading her computer, installing new software and other internal components. It was pretty extensive and exhausting, but I really do enjoy helping people with their computers, whether its upgrading them, resolving an issue, or advising them on new technology.

Maybe I can help you! Send me an e-mail if you have a computer-related question. I specialize in Apple products; they’re really my forte.

After my appointment, Keziah and I were going to meet up with her friend at Dinosaur BBQ, but I was starving and opted for some Pontillo’s pizza delivery instead. Sweet nectar. πŸ™‚

The day ended curled up on the couch, scarfing pizza and watching “Daja  Vu.” A nice way to round out the day. πŸ˜€

Friday!

Ahhh, at long last the final day of the week!

Nothing brings such joy and reverence as Friday does, to me. It’s a bittersweet moment, as I have 2 days off, but I’ll need to use those two days to work on school. πŸ™ But, the sooner I finish my work, the sooner I can play. πŸ™‚ Keziah and I are going to begin working on an über-secret project this weekend, that we hope to have finished up soon.

So, I posted a few items on Craigslist earlier in the week, and last night I sold one of them! That was fast! Not as easy or nice as eBay, but it was free so I can’t complain. I spent last weekend cleaning out the garage, and now there’s one less item cluttering it up! The wife will be happy, and that’s all that matters! πŸ™‚
